SUNSCREEN FOR SENSITIVE SKIN

While reading the magazine Real Simple I came across an interesting article about different types of sunscreen protection for the skin. It stated that while you can get protection from UVB and UVA from the newer chemical based products the one that works best for sensitive skin is Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide. These earth pigments naturally occur and protect by reflecting rays away from the skin instead of absorbing them.

All of Kissed By Mother Nature’s products contain both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide for a natural protection from UVA and UVB rays. Our face and body creams for women go even further with the addition of minerals that are added to reflect and hide fine lines and wrinkles giving the face a natural glow. As the creams replenish the cells of your skin and reduce and eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles these earth pigments let your skin look younger and firmer from the start.

Jessica wrote I use the Renewing Scrub and Renewing Body Butter. I like the scrub especially for my hands and feet. I love how it feels, makes my hands feel great after washing all day in a medical office. I love the fragrance and the texture is nice. I think that the products last longer than expected and have had people notice that my hands don't crack so bad from the medical cleanser and my feet are softer.

Karen uses the Muscle Relief Body Oil and thinks the texture is smooth and oily at first but absorbs into skin fairly quickly when "massaged in". She says the product feels smooth, silky, refreshing and soothing on her skin and that the fragrance is "minty" & refreshing - very pleasant. When asked if the product lasts long enough in her opinion, she answered yes, pain relief lasts long enough to do 3 or 4 hours yardwoork (or other work) with hands. Karen uses the Muscle Relief Body Oil for her arthritis in her hands and she gets noticeable relief from pain in just minutes.

Becky (BD Nelson Author of thriller/suspense novels) wrote that she uses most of the products, face & body cream, scrub, butter, bath salts and muscle relief oil. She thinks the texture of the products are smooth and creamy and the scrub is cleansing and moisturizing. She says that the product makes her skin feel moisturized and that the muscle oils is warm & soothing. She likes the fragrances and says they are mild and pleasant. When asked if the products last long enough she states, oh yes - I use the body scrub once a week and body wash daily and my skin is soft all day long - normally had dry skin! When asked if anyone else noticed any difference in her appearance she said yes, my skin is softer and absolutely looks younger.

SHEA BUTTER

Shea butter, also known as karite butter, is a cream-colored fatty substance made from the nuts of karite nut trees (also called Mangifolia trees) that grow in the savannah regions of West and Central Africa. Karite trees, or shea trees, are not cultivated. They grow only in the wild, and can take up to 50 years to mature (and can live up to 300 years!). In most parts of West Africa, destruction of the shea tree is prohibited because this little nut provides a valuable source of food, medicine, and income for the population. In fact, shea butter is sometimes referred to as “women’s gold” in Africa, because so many women are employed in the production of shea butter.

Why is shea butter in such demand? Western countries are just beginning to recognize the considerable health and beauty benefits of shea butter, something Africans have known for thousands of years. Shea butter has been used to help heal burns, sores, scars, dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, and stretch marks. It may also help diminish wrinkles by moisturizing the skin, promoting cell renewal, and increasing circulation. Shea butter also contains cinnamic acid, a substance that helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

Shea butter is a particularly effective moisturizer because contains so many fatty acids, which are needed to retain skin moisture and elasticity. The high fatty acid content of shea butter also makes it an excellent additive to soap, shampoos, anti-aging creams, cosmetics, lotions, and massage oils—its soft, butter-like texture melts readily into the skin.

Shea butter protects the skin from both environmental and free-radical damage. It contains vitamins A and E, and has demonstrated both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

MANGO BUTTER

Mango butter is a soft solid with a very slight sweet scent. It is extracted from the de-shelled fruit kernels of the mango tree. The mango tree is a tropical evergreen, and once the mango butter is extracted from its fruit kernels it is heated and boiled to get the right consistency.
Mango butter has natural emollient properties, high oxidative ability, wound healing, and regenerative activity due to its high unsaponiable. It has a protective effect against UV radiation. Mango butter will provide improvements and benefits in all the conditions listed below. As you use this butter you are likely to discover additional uses. Dermatologists often recommend mango butter for treatment of wrinkles, as most people who use it will notice decreased signs of aging and the disappearance of lines and wrinkles within 4 to 6 weeks of daily use.
Reasons to use Mango butter: Effectively treats dry skin, heals skin rash, heals skin peeling, after tanning, clears blemishes and wrinkles, relieves itching skin, heals sunburn, shaving cream for a smooth shave, treats small skin wounds and skin cracks, moisturizes and smoothes tough or rough skin, fights frost bite, prevents stretch marks during pregnancy, relieves insect bites, promotes healthy rejuvenated skin, heals muscle fatigue, aches and tension, relieves skin allergies such as poison ivy or poison oak, treats eczema and dermatitis and fights off fine lines and wrinkle
Mango butter is obtained from the kernels of the mango tree. It has a high content of stearic acid which makes it similar to cocoa butter. Mango butter has good emolliency and lends protection against the sun. It is said to prevent drying of the skin and formation of wrinkles. Mango butter also reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores elasticity. Mango butter’s hardness makes it a great butter for stick formulations such as lip balm and lotion bars. It can be used “as is” to provide relief from the dryness of eczema and psoriasis.

Dead Sea Salt

The waters of the Dead Sea have been renowned for their therapeutic effects since ancient times. Two thousand years ago, Flavius wrote that the salts from the Dead Sea heal the human body.
The waters from the Dead Sea are unique in that they contain 27% of various salts as compared to 3% in normal sea water. Further, while sodium accounts for approximately 80% of the salt content of normal sea water, it comprises much less of the salt total in water from the Dead Sea. The balance of the salts in Dead Sea water is magnesium, potassium, calcium chloride and bromides. Magnesium is important for combating stress and fluid retention, slowing skin aging and calming the nervous system. Calcium is effective at preventing water retention, increasing circulation and strengthening bones and nails. Potassium energizes the body, helps to balance skin moisture and is a crucial mineral to replenish following intense exercise. Bromides act to ease muscle stiffness and relax muscles. Sodium is important for the lymphatic fluid balance (this in turn is important for immune system function). So bathing in high quality sea salt could replenish the minerals which are critical to our skin metabolism.

OLIVE OIL

Upper-class Romans believed in the skin benefits of olive oil. After steaming in a hot bath, they would apply a generous amount of olive oil to withdraw impurities and then go to the cold bath to close the skin's pores. The oil helped trap impurities outside the skin; both could then be scraped away.

Olive is an evergreen tree in the Mediterranean region. The tree grows to 9 meters tall and takes 15 years to bear fruit.
The oil has a heavy texture and can vary in color from a pale golden yellow to dark green. The purest form is from the "extra virgin" and it is lightest in color.
Olive oil has many antioxidant properties. Olive oil absorbs UV radiation and is very efficient in lowering metabolism rate of the body cells, thus assisting in repairing cells and in preventing cell damage. Olive oil is soothing and healing to all skin types.

One of the primary olive oil benefits is that it contains natural antioxidants, polyphenols, which provides a better chance of eliminating agents harmful to the skin with less negative side effects. This agent is beneficial in fighting bacterial and fungal agents invading the skin. It would be easier to achieve a clear skin without encountering skin reactions or allergies common when using a chemical-based skin care product. The presence of monounsaturated fat makes olive oil for skin healthier compared to other natural vegetable oils. It’s very mild property has the capability to clean out dirt without damaging any skin layer. It is also the reason why olive oil is also recommended as a make-up remover instead of using baby oil and other chemically-based products.

COCOA BUTTER A SKIN CARE ADDITIVE GOOD ENOUGH TO EATCOCOA BUTTER A SKIN CARE ADDITIVE GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT

Cocoa butter, also called cacao butter, is the cream-colored fat extracted from cacao seeds (cocoa beans) and used to add flavor, scent, and smoothness to chocolate, cosmetics, tanning oil, soap, and a multitude of topical lotions and creams. Cocoa butter has been called the ultimate moisturizer, and has been used to keep skin soft and supple for centuries. It is one of the most stable, highly concentrated natural fats known, and melts at body temperature so that it is readily absorbed into the skin. Cocoa butter is often recommended for treatment of skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. When applied topically, it creates a barrier between sensitive skin and the environment and also helps retain moisture. In addition, cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), a substance that inhibits the production of the immuno globulin that is known to aggravate symptoms of both dermatitis and asthma.

Pregnant women have long used to cocoa butter formulations to prevent and treat stretch marks, but this pleasant-smelling substance is added to countless other topical preparations as well. Lotions and oils containing cocoa butter are often used in aromatherapy massages to promote feelings of relaxation and well-being. Recent research indicates that massaging the skin with cocoa butter may help relieve stress, boost the immune system, and even prevent cancer. This is because cocoa butter, like chocolate, contains a lot of cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP). Researchers in Japan reported that CMP inhibits the growth of cancerous cells and tumors by reducing active oxygen levels in the body, and concluded that CMP inhibits the oxidation of LDL (good) cholesterol and the production of inflammatory cells; there is some evidence that the CMP in cocoa butter may also help prevent heart disease and ease arthritic symptoms.

Helichrysum italicum or Helichrysum angustifolium of the family Asteraceae is a flowering plant of the daisy is sometimes called a curry plant because of the strong smell of its leaves. It grows on dry, rocky or sandy ground around the Mediterranean. The stems are woody at the base and can reach 60 cm or more in height. The clusters of yellow flowers are produced in summer; they retain their color after picking and are used in dried flower arrangements.
The plant produces oil from its blossoms which is used for medicinal purposes. It is anti-inflammatory, fungicidal, and astringent. It soothes burns and raw chapped skin. It is used as a fixative in perfumes and has an intense fragrance.
Its cosmetic composition, especially as an anti-ageing agent and its hydrating factor is obtained only from the flowers of Helichrysum Italicum from the variety serotinum. The Helichrysum Italicum is most particularly intended for treatment of the face and body in a battle against aging skin and especially in the prevention of wrinkles. It hydrates skin enabling cells to revive and also acts as a barrier protecting skin from the damaging effects of the environment such as the sun
